Bennett J. Baker

Senior Associate

BENNETT J. BAKER is an associate attorney at GWC, where he works in the firm’s Litigation division.

As a child, Bennett’s relatives told him he would make a great lawyer because he was always arguing. After earning a BA at the University of Colorado, he decided to take them up on this suggestion by graduating from John Marshall Law School with a Juris Doctorate and being admitted to the Illinois State Bar.

Since 1978, Bennett has been privileged to represent injured people in their struggle for justice against insurance companies and large corporations. During this time, he has also given back to his profession by lecturing at numerous seminars pertaining to personal injury and trial practice and by chairing various bar association groups in this field.

Recognition

Bennett has devoted his career to helping victims and their families with all different kinds of injuries resulting from many different types of events. He has represented clients who have been injured from significant automobile collisions, falls on defective premises, and construction accidents. The skills and experience that Bennett has developed over decades of practice have become invaluable in his pursuits as an arbitrator of complex litigation matters and as a participant in arbitrations, mediations, and trials.

With his hard work and dedication as a litigation attorney, Bennett has consistently produced successful results for his clients, including a $3.1 million settlement for a 39-year-old male pedestrian who was struck by a negligent driver and a $2.6 million settlement for a 35-year-old female driver who was hit by a sheriff responding to an emergency call. He has also obtained $1.1 million and a waiver of a workers’ compensation lien of $600,000.00 for a tradesman who sustained leg injuries when a weld failed, causing a large iron plate to fall on him. Bennett most recently won a $315,900.00 verdict at trial for a union decorator who suffered a shoulder injury after he was struck by a three-wheel motorized cart at a convention center in Chicago.

Bennett takes pride in making a difference in the lives of injured people and their families. He believes that personal injury lawyers help make life safer because businesses would never be as careful as they are now if they knew there would be no legal recourse from their negligent acts.

When he is not practicing law, Bennett enjoys playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren.
