18 Injured In Calumat Park Mass Transit Accident

A mass transit accident in Calumet Park recently sent 18 people to the hospital. The crash happened Tuesday at the intersection of South Throop Street and West 124th. A PACE bus was making a right turn and was clipped by a car making a left turn at the intersection. Of the 36 people on the bus, about 18 asked to go to area hospitals.

Everyone who asked to go to the hospital was evaluated for personal injuries and it is unclear how severe any of the injuries were.

Both the bus driver and the car were able to drive away from the scene.

Another serious bus accident happened last week at the corner of Madison and Hoyne. That school bus accident happened when a bus driver struck a median while attempting to avoid hitting another car. There was major damage to the school bus and the Chicago Sun-Times reports that seven students were rushed to nearby hospitals.

It is unclear whether the bus was tailgating the car that tried to avoid or whether that driver stayed on the scene of the accident. The bus driver refused medical treatment and none of the schoolchildren involved suffered serious personal injuries in this crash.
