Driver Charged In Kennedy Expressway DUI

In our last post we discussed a fatal drunk driving car accident that happened over the weekend on the Kennedy Expressway. Authorities say that they have charged a 24-year-old Northwest Side man with drunk driving and it is unclear whether he will also face vehicular homicide charges in connection with his passenger’s wrongful death.

The SUV that the man was driving was packed with seven people. Authorities believe that several people were sitting on laps of others, which is highly unsafe because passengers who aren’t wearing seatbelts are likely to be ejected from a vehicle in the event of a crash. A 23-year-old girl from suburban Medinah was killed in the crash. It is unclear whether she was buckled in at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred early yesterday morning when the Northwest Side man slammed into several vehicles, ran into a barrier and then hit two other cars. The SUV finally stopped when it hit an off-ramp wall.

The deceased 23-year-old passenger is the only person who suffered serious injuries in this accident. Everyone else had minor to moderate injuries.

Authorities allege that the man had a blood alcohol limit around three times the legal limit of .08 percent.
