In our last post we covered a serious Elgin DUI car accident which injured four people including the teen who caused the accident. Another Illinois man was recently charged in connection with a drunk driving car accident – a 51-year-old Burbank man was charged with a variety of drunk driving-related crimes after fatally striking a 56-year-old woman who was stepping into a car on Chicago’s Southwest Side.
Authorities say that the pedestrian accident happened early Saturday morning around 2 a.m. on South Pulaski Road. The woman was pronounced dead the evening of the accident, according to the Chicago Tribune.
CBS Chicago reports that the man stayed on the scene of the crash until police arrived. The woman died after being treated at Oak Lawn’s Advocate Christ Medical Center.
The man faces a variety of charges including reckless driving, misdemeanor DUI, failure to reduce speed, driving without insurance, and felony DUI.
It is unclear at this point whether the man will also face a wrongful death lawsuit from the family of the woman who died in this pedestrian accident. A wrongful death action is a legal action brought by the surviving family members of a car accident against the individual who brought about their loved one’s death. Funds from a DUI lawsuit can cover a variety of things including medical expenses and the lost financial and emotional support of the deceased person.
