One Dead In Rogers Park Auto Accident

A speeding driver was killed and four passengers were injured in Rogers Park last Thursday. Authorities say that a man was speeding on eastbound West Howard Street when he came upon slowed or stopped traffic. The driver veered off of the road and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency responders also rushed four teen passengers to nearby hospitals. CBS Chicago reports there were two 19-year-old male passenger, a 19-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl in the car. A fifth car passenger fled on foot but police officers are unsure why. The age of the driver was also not reported.

Teens are more likely than almost any other age group to be involved in a serious car accident. The causes of teen car accidents vary, but usually involved inexperience and speed. Teens are most likely to crash in the few months after they begin driving, which is why many states have graduated driver’s license laws which prohibit young drivers from driving in risky situations, such as at night or with too many passengers.
