Two people were killed and one person was injured this weekend in a serious auto accident on Chicago’s Far Southwest Side. CBS Chicago reports that the fatal accident happened early Sunday morning when a car crossed the center line of West 115th Street and hit another car head-on. The damage was severe and killed a 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old man. A woman survived the crash, which happened near Chicago’s border with Merrionette Park.
Authorities are investigating the crash and the names of the people involved were withheld pending notification of family members.
“It was a very ugly scene. It’s terrible the way it looks. The cars are demolished,” a witness told WLS-TV, “There was fire in both of them. Looks like a person went through the windshield. I mean, there’s a big hole on one side of the windshield.”
Witnesses added that the roads were wet, but not icy at the time of the crash and authorities had to extricate some of the victims.
Another severe car accident happened Monday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood. The Chicago Tribune reports that five people were injured in the West Side crash which involved five vehicles. Everyone was taken to the hospital, and four of the victims were in serious condition. It is unclear what caused the accident.
