Stolen Car Crash Kills One on South Side

burninjuryThe driver of a stolen car was fatally injured after the car became involved in an accident with a semi-truck. The accident occurred Friday afternoon on the South Side.

Around 2 p.m., the driver of the Toyota Corolla was traveling west on 87th Street in the Ashburn neighborhood. He then ran a red light at Western Avenue and crashed the car into a semi-truck.

The car immediately caught on fire and the driver was trapped in the vehicle. At the time of the accident, he was the sole occupant of the car.

The details about the man killed in the crash have not been revealed. The Cook County medical examiners office conducted an autopsy. Their results reveal that the man died of the injuries he suffered in the accident and they ruled his death an accident.

The driver of the semi-truck and two other individuals who stopped to help refused to accept medical treatment stating that they were okay.

The police report that the Toyota was stolen from the 1600 block of West 87th Street. The car was running when the male jumped into the vehicle and sped away. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit of the Chicago Police Department is still investigating the crash.
