A Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood car accident resulted in the hospitalization of three Chicago police officers. The accident happened yesterday around 2:30 a.m. when the officers attempted to pull over a car at Anthony Avenue and 69th Street. CBS Chicago reports that the officers pulled the car over for having no working taillights.
When the officers approached the car they noticed that the steering column was peeled, which is an indication of a stolen car. The driver took off, and a chase ensued.
The officer driving the squad car lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Rhodes Avenue and 72nd Street. The squad car crashed into a pole and then an apartment building. The three officers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Two of the officers were released after being treated and one officers was admitted for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Other officers managed to catch the car thief at 72nd and St. Lawrence Avenue a short time later.
