Two Fatal Crashes

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Sadly, fatal crashes happen every day.  They are never intentional, but no matter how careful we are, the world is full of accidents that can never be expected. Here are just two examples that have happened within one week on Illinois roadways.

Sunday, between 2 and 3 a.m., an eighteen year old woman was in a 1999 Infiniti sedan, along with three others. Their driver ran a red light at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and 63rd Street, and was then struck near the rear by a 2002 Nissan. The Infiniti then spun into a pole, causing extensive damage to the vehicle in which these 4 occupants were located. The young woman was the only fatality in the accident.

The driver, who was 19, was intoxicated at the time, and has been charged with a quite a list of violations, a few of which are: aggravated driving under the influence, disobeying a signal stop, and operating a vehicle without insurance.

In another fatal crash, near the intersection of Route 38 and Watson Road, in Kane County, a 2000 Mercury Marquis and a 1987 Chevy pickup collided on Monday morning.  It is understood that the Mercury swerved to avoid hitting a paused car in front of them, and ended up hitting the pickup instead. The driver of the Mercury was a 32 year old woman.  When they arrived, sheriffs found her injured, and she was later pronounced dead at Delnor Hospital.  The driver of the Tahoe was a 35 year old man and he survived the crash.

Although the number of fatal crashes has been dropping down within the last few decades, close to 30,000 still remain in America each year.  Even more staggering, about a million and a half of the yearly accidents result in injuries to one or more persons.  These dont include the 10 million accidents that The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates are left unreported.

In 2013, Illinois had over 1,100 fatalities on its highways.  2014 has started off already with numerous fatalities occurring on our roads and highways in Illinois.
