Wicker Park Car Crash Injures 5

At least five people suffered personal injuries this morning when a car containing five people blew a stop sign in Wicker Park. Authorities say that the collision happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Ashland Avenue and Division Street.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the car broadsided a SUV-style cab. Pictures of the cab from WGN-TV show the driver’s side of the cab completely smashed in and a front driver’s side tire that is barely attached. Reports also indicate that one of the vehicles also hit a pedestrian in the area. It is unclear whether the pedestrian accident happened before the collision with the cab or afterward.

According to NBC Chicago, the car was riding on a rim at the time of the crash. It is unclear whether this was due to a prior accident or whether the lack of a proper tire contributed to the crash. The entire front of the grey sedan was crumpled-in and several of the car occupants were rushed to the hospital.

All media stories regarding this car accident indicate that some of the injuries are serious, but that no one suffered life-threatening injuries.

It has not been reported whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash, or whether the sedan driver had a history of DUI incidents.
