Louis C. CairoLouis is a senior partner at GWC. Growing up the son of an Italian immigrant who owned and operated a union construction company in Northern Illinois, Louis acquired a considerable amount of experience and respect for the men and women working in the construction industry. His upbringing has had a significant impact on Louis’ reputation as an accomplished trial attorney in the representation of severely injured individuals and the families of victims of wrongful death claims. His experience includes representing clients that have suffered damages due to traumatic brain injuries, multiple fractures, paralysis and wrongful death of a family member or loved one. He has successfully tried cases involving construction negligence, product liability, trucking accident fatalities, Federal Employer Liability Act cases, automobile accidents, slip and falls and other types of catastrophic injuries. He has represented numerous clients, in addition to the above type of cases that have sustained damage due to medical malpractice, dog bite, dram shop and many other aspects of tort liability.
Louis graduated from Marquette University undergraduate school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his law degree at Loyola University School of Law in Chicago in 1983. He is a distinguished member of the Board of Managers in the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the Justinian Society of Italian Lawyers, American Association for Justice, Society of Trial Lawyers, Chicago Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association. He is a member of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys, and the Attorneys Information Exchange Group.
Results on behalf of his clients have included the largest verdict in Kane County for a whiplash injury, largest verdict in Illinois for fibromyalgia, largest settlement in Lake County for construction negligence and largest settlement in Sycamore County for wrongful death. In 2002, Louis C. Cairo had more million dollar-plus settlements outside of Cook County than any other attorney in Illinois, helping GWC, Ltd. achieve the honors of successfully resolving more million dollar-plus cases than any other firm in Illinois.
Louis has lectured extensively to attorneys through the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and speaks regularly to building trades members concerning their legal rights. He was named the Italian American Labor Council’s “Person of the Year” for 2004 because of his accomplishments and efforts to improve the quality of life for injured tradesmen in Illinois. Louis has consistently been named to the prestigious list of Illinois Leading Lawyers and to the list of Illinois Super Lawyers.
When not practicing law, Louis spends his time with his wife and three children and participates in all types of upland game and big game safari hunting throughout the globe.
