• The National Center for State Courts showed the number of medical malpractice cases
filed nationally between 1996 and 2006 dropped by 8 percent.
• Court records show that medical malpractice lawsuits in Illinois steadily decreased before
the enactment of the damages caps in 2005 and thereafter.
