Annual Event Educates Workers
Latin American Labor Rights Week is a yearly event dedicated to educating Latin American workers in the Chicago area about their legal rights. The Consulate General of Mexico, the Consulate General of El Salvador, and the Consulate General of Guatemala organized the event, with participation from the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Department of Labor, and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
From August 30th through September 3rd, 2021, Ms. Hickey and Mr. Rodriguez gave multiple presentations about workers’ compensation rights and benefits. They also participated in a Facebook Live panel discussion on “Labor Rights in the Time of COVID,” alongside Alex Perez, a business representative for the Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters, and Martin Unzueta, the Executive Director of Chicago Community and Worker’s Rights. Later they discussed a similar subject in an interview with Fer Lopez on Rockford’s La Bamba Radio.
As experienced workers’ compensation attorneys of Latino heritage, Ms. Hickey and Mr. Rodriguez believe that Latin American Labor Rights Week provides an excellent opportunity to make workers aware of their protections under the law.
