The coalition also released an interactive map which shows how many people are killed by red-light runners in each state. It tracks red-light related crashes from 2004 to 2013. Unfortunately, Chicago rounds out the top five cities plagued by dangerous red-light runners.
According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than seven thousand people in the U.S. have been killed by red-light running since 2004.
The public safety campaign, which calls on drivers to better understand how traffic safety affects communities across the country, was launched by the Federal Highway Administration nearly two decades ago.
