Aurora Rollover Crash Leaves One Dead, Two Seriously Injured

Aurora rollover crashAn Aurora rollover crash has left one woman dead and two other people seriously injured, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

Three Victims in Aurora Rollover Crash

On November 23, 2019, just before 3:00 a.m., Aurora Police reported to the scene of a rollover crash in the 600 block of North Ohio Street. Officers found a motor vehicle on its side with one person pinned underneath it and two other people trapped inside the vehicle.

The Aurora Fire Department extricated the two passengers from the vehicle, and paramedics immediately began providing lifesaving care. The injured passengers were then transported to an area hospital in critical condition and have since been upgraded to stable condition, according to the Aurora Police Department.

The victim who was pinned under the vehicle succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. According to the Kane County Coroner, the preliminary cause of death for that victim, later identified as 22-year-old Estebalize Venecia, was “multiple injuries consistent with an automobile collision.”

Police are investigating the cause of the single-vehicle Aurora rollover crash.

Rollover Crashes Have a Higher Fatality Rate

While the cause of the Aurora rollover crash has yet to be determined, it is important to note that rollover crashes are especially dangerous traffic accidents, with a higher fatality rate than other types of crashes.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while there were rollovers in only 2.1 percent of the nearly 9.1 million passenger car, SUV, pickup, and van crashes in 2010, they accounted for nearly 35 percent of all deaths from passenger vehicle crashes, with more than 7,600 people killed. Even in cases without a fatality, drivers and passengers can suffer significant injuries in rollover crashes, including brain damage, spinal cord trauma, fractured bones, loss of limbs, and paralysis.
