GWC Secures Over $1.45 Million for Injured Union Drywaller

Published by GWC Injury Lawyers

GWC Injury Lawyers proudly obtained a settlement exceeding $1.45 million on behalf of a 58-year-old union drywall taper who was seriously injured at a construction site in Kankakee County, Illinois. The legal team—comprising attorneys Timothy Keiser, Allison Dolan, and Taylor Shur—secured the recovery with the assistance of Hon. Joseph N. Casciato (Ret.). Importantly, the settlement also included a full waiver of the workers’ compensation lien, increasing the net benefit to the injured worker.

The incident occurred in September 2022, when the client was performing drywall work using stilts to access elevated areas. While working, he became entangled in rope banding negligently left in his path and fell, suffering a serious knee injury that required surgical treatment. GWC filed a lawsuit against the general contractor, asserting that its failure to maintain a safe jobsite directly led to the accident. The case highlighted the contractor’s lack of oversight and disregard for essential safety protocols.

Holding Negligent Contractors Accountable

“This result underscores GWC’s mission to protect the rights of union tradespeople and hold negligent parties responsible,” said GWC Partner Tim Keiser. “All workers deserve a safe environment. When companies cut corners on safety, it’s the workers who suffer the consequences. We are proud to have achieved a recovery that offers our client both financial stability and access to future medical care, while sending a clear message that unsafe work environments will not be tolerated.”
