Shop Struck by Out-of-Control Jeep

The Hinsdale Jeep crash took place shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 17, 2023. At that time, an individual allegedly employed by Fuller’s Car Wash struck the 14-year-old boy, who was unfortunately in the path of the Jeep, then drove across the street, slamming completely into the front of the Fontano’s Subs building near the intersection of Lincoln Street and Chicago Avenue.

In addition to critically injuring the 14-year-old boy, four patrons of the sub shop were also injured, three of them seriously, resulting in hospitalization.

The 14-year-old was transported to AdventHealth Hinsdale before being flown to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he remains hospitalized with critical injuries. Three other victims were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition. Another customer was treated at the scene and released.

The Hinsdale Police Department and the Major Crash Reconstruction Team from the DuPage County Merit Task Force are investigating the cause of the auto accident. It is unclear what charges may be filed against the vehicle’s driver, whose identity has thus far not been disclosed and who apparently suffered no injuries.
