semi truck accidentA teen has been struck and killed in a hit-and-run semi truck accident in the Gage Park neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest Side.

Driver Left Scene of Semi Truck Accident

The semi truck accident occurred on March 5 at around 3:48 p.m. A semi truck was traveling west on 51st Street when it made a right turn onto Western Avenue. The truck then struck a 14-year-old boy who had been crossing Western Avenue.

The driver did not stop at the scene of the fatal semi truck accident. Chicago Police later apprehended him at Western Avenue and 33rd Street. The police took the driver into custody and cited him for failing to yield the right of way.

Emergency responders transported the teen to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he died at 4:23 p.m. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified him as Anthony Macedo.

Police have not named the truck driver, whom they later released.

Area Central detectives and the Major Accident Investigation Unit are conducting an inquiry. They are trying to determine if the truck driver knew he had hit anyone before leaving the scene.

The semi truck is registered in Maine. CBS 2 News contacted the company listed on the side of the truck. The company was unaware of the semi truck accident and had no comment at the time.

Challenges Posed by Semi Truck Accidents

Obtaining compensation for injuries sustained in a semi truck accident can be challenging. Semi trucks are usually commercial vehicles, used to transport goods for business purposes. And a crash involving a commercial vehicle may be more complex than other motor vehicle accidents. This complexity is the result of the number of parties involved.

Outside of the driver and the driver’s employer, there is often a company that hired the commercial transport company to ship its goods. There may even be other companies involved as well. It is crucial that you identify and pursue all the parties who may be at fault. Failure to do so within the time limited by law could forever bar you from obtaining the financial compensation you deserve.
