Louis C. Cairo Discusses Nursing Home Liability During the COVID-19 Pandemic on WCPT

GWC Injury Lawyers Managing Partner Louis C. Cairo recently appeared on WCPT’s talk show Joan Esposito Live, Local & Progressive.

Louis lent his voice on the broadcast on Thursday, May 14. He and host Joan Esposito discussed liability during the COVID-19 pandemic for nursing homes, which have become the epicenter of the state’s coronavirus outbreak. They also spoke about the implications on the nursing home industry of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s executive order granting immunity from civil liability to healthcare workers for injuries or deaths that occur while they provide healthcare services during the duration of the COVID-19 state of emergency.

Louis noted that the pandemic is exacerbating preexisting problems brought on by the widespread private ownership of nursing homes.

“The profit is minimizing your overhead, minimizing your employees, how often you’re going to sanitize everything,” said Louis. “A lot of beautiful elderly people are being compromised as a result of it.”
