McHenry Man Killed in Wauconda Three-Vehicle Accident

Wauconda three-vehicle accidentA McHenry man has been killed and three other people have been injured in a Wauconda three-vehicle accident involving a dump truck.

Wauconda Three-Vehicle Accident at Intersection

The fatal Wauconda three-vehicle accident took place on the early morning of January 13, 2021. At approximately 8:00 a.m., a 24-year-old Ingleside man was driving a 2018 Chevy Trax southbound on Wilson Road, approaching Route 60. The driver then reportedly disregarded a stop sign and proceeded into the intersection, placing the Chevy directly in the path of a westbound Peterbilt dump truck pulling a trailer. The dump truck struck the Chevy, then collided with an eastbound Ram ProMaster van driven by a 59-year-old McHenry man.

The Ram’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the Wauconda three-vehicle accident. His passenger, a 31-year-old Kenosha man, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, along with the Chevy’s driver and the driver of the dump truck, a 50-year-old Berwyn man.

The westbound and eastbound lanes of Route 60 were closed while the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit tried to determine the cause of the Wauconda three-vehicle accident.

Collisions with More Than Two Vehicles

Collisions in which more than two vehicles are involved can happen for any number of reasons, including poor weather conditions, impaired or distracted driving, defective equipment, and disregard of traffic control signals, but following too closely is the most common factor. While the investigation of the Wauconda three-vehicle accident remains ongoing, incidents such as these can make assigning liability especially challenging.

In most cases, the driver who causes the initial impact is usually at fault for the entire incident. In other cases, however, more than one party may share the blame. Uncertainty about liability can prove to be a significant obstacle to victims of collisions involving three or more vehicles when they try to obtain full and fair compensation for their injuries.

Car Accident Lawyers Fighting for Justice

And make no mistake: insurance companies will try to take advantage of this uncertainty to minimize their own financial exposure. A victim in these situations needs to build a rock-solid case constructed upon a strong factual foundation, with information drawn from such sources as:

  • Police Reports

  • Eyewitness Statements
  • Physical Evidence
