GWC Supports Consulate General of Mexico Initiative to End Violence Against Women

rvrOn November 29, 2016, the Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago hosted the opening ceremony of the “2nd Latin American Week for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.” Representatives from GWC Injury Lawyers were in attendance.

The goal of this weeklong initiative is “to promote a violence free environment towards women within our Latin American and Caribbean Communities in the states of Illinois and Indiana,” according to a statement by Consul General Carlos Jimenez-Macias.

This event is taking place in support of a United Nations initiative known as “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” which runs from November 25 through December 10.

“This is an issue our firm feels very strongly about,” said GWC attorney Raul V. Rodriguez, who attended the opening ceremony. “We think all women should be free from the threat of violence, and we applaud the Consulate’s efforts to support women’s rights within our local communities.”

The Consulate General of Mexico of Chicago has scheduled activities throughout the week, addressing such issues as domestic violence, child custody, divorce, workplace sexual violence, labor rights, human trafficking, and immigration law for domestic abuse victims. All activities are open to Caribbean and Latin American nationals.
