Joel Ogiego, a 45-year-old father from Portage, Indiana was crushed in a construction accident. The Chicago Fire Department responded to a call in late January regarding the accident. When fire officials arrived, they were told that he was working 60 feet above the ground inside a crane and became pinned by an elevator.
Workers arrived and attempted to conduct CPR at the scene. Unfortunately, even with the arrival of emergency medical technicians, the damage was too severe.
The federal agency for enforcing labor standards, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), has opened an investigation into the death Joel Ogiego who was killed on the North Side of Chicago.
OSHA investigations typically take up to six months to complete. The investigators will review the details of the accident to determine whether the company violated any safety regulations.
If the construction company is found to have violated safety rules, OSHA may issue monetary penalties. Additionally, OSHA may cite the company for violations which could, if severe enough, impact how the company receives licenses in order to build.
