Pekin Man Dies In East Peoria DUI Accident Route 29

A 24-year-old man is dead after a serious drunk driving car accident in Peoria. Authorities say that the Pekin man died last Thursday from injuries sustained in a car accident on the previous Sunday.

The man and a 23-year-old friend were neighbors who had been drinking at a bar in Peoria before stopping for breakfast in East Peoria. The driver was still intoxicated after breakfast and failed to negotiate a curve on Illinois Route 29.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on Southbound Route 29 when the driver kept going straight at the road’s curve, hit the median, and then a sign pole.

Blood tests indicated that the driver was still intoxicated at the time of the crash and DUI charges will be awaiting him after he is released from St. Francis Medical Center. The driver was in critical condition in the hospital as of last week.

Another Illinois woman is facing prison time after a drunk driving car accident. Authorities say that the 32-year-old suburban Rockdale woman ran over a cyclist while driving under the influence last summer. The 49-year-old Joliet man died almost two weeks after the accident.

The woman pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI on the eve of her criminal trial.
