MICHAEL B. GOLDBERG was a Founder and Senior Partner of the law firm now known as GWC Injury Lawyers (GWC). Michael passed away on March 13, 2019, following a brave three-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Michael was very proud of his standing and reputation in the organized labor community. He was recognized as a leader in his field and routinely acted as an advisor to labor leaders throughout Illinois. Michael was a frequent lecturer at many labor functions and recognized the importance of education as a necessity in helping injured workers protect their rights.
During his lifetime, Michael could often be found in Springfield, where he was actively involved in protecting the rights of injured workers through his work with the Illinois legislature. He was bestowed with many honors over the course of his career, including being named a Leading Lawyer, a Super Lawyer, a National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Trial Lawyer, and one of Chicago Magazine’s Top Attorneys in Illinois. He also received the LCCLA Community Service Award, the TNBC Outstanding Service Award, the GSO Man of the Year Award, and the ATU Scholar Award.
Michael was well known in philanthropic circles. He served on the board of directors of the Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF), where he provided ten full four-year scholarships to send needy Israeli combat soldiers to college. He was a strong supporter of many other charitable organizations, including the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, Autism Now, Helmets to Hardhats, Bravehearts, DADS, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the University of Rochester, the Leukemia Society, the Jewish United Fund, Michael Matters, and Bear Necessities.
