GWC Attorney to Serve Second Term on ISBA Council

The Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) has selected GWC attorney James E. Babcock to serve a second term on the Workers’ Compensation Law Section Council.

The ISBA had previously appointed Mr. Babcock to the Workers’ Compensation Law Section Council for its 2021-2022 term. This reappointment will see him continuing his work for the committee through March 2023.

During his most recent term, Mr. Babcock participated in the Council that assists more than 27,000 ISBA members with their workers’ compensation concerns. Most notably, he published a well-received article in the September 2021 issue of Workers’ Compensation Law, the organization’s newsletter. The article – “Arising Out of ‘Walk This Way’: Purdy Brothers Trucking, LLC v. IWCC” – looked at a recent appellate court ruling on a trucking company’s attempt to deny benefits to one of its employees.

While this is only Mr. Babcock’s second consecutive term on the Workers’ Compensation Law Council, it is not the first time he has been involved with the committee, having previously served on the body in the 1990s before the commitments of raising a family precluded greater participation. He is pleased to have another opportunity to support the state’s workers’ compensation attorneys.

“It is an honor to be reappointed to the Council,” said Mr. Babcock, “and I look forward to my next article and continuing education assignment.”
