Passion Overstreet, 28, was inside a carwash at the 5400 block of Damen Avenue when a 56-year-old man drove his Volkswagen Golf through its closed overhead door at approximately 9:50 a.m. Ms. Overstreet was struck by the door and the car and pinned underneath both. The driver who struck her was cited for failure to take due care for a pedestrian. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a pedestrian is injured in a motor vehicle accident every eight minutes in the United States. Even at low speeds, the impact of thousands of pounds of metal can cause catastrophic injuries.
