Mail Carrier Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Lincoln Square Carwash

car wash accidentA mail carrier was struck and killed at a carwash in the Lincoln Square neighborhood in Chicago’s North Side on the morning of January 28, 2017.

Passion Overstreet, 28, was inside a carwash at the 5400 block of Damen Avenue when a 56-year-old man drove his Volkswagen Golf through its closed overhead door at approximately 9:50 a.m. Ms. Overstreet was struck by the door and the car and pinned underneath both. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extricated Ms. Overstreet. She was taken to Evanston’s Saint Francis Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver who struck her was cited for failure to take due care for a pedestrian. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a pedestrian is injured in a motor vehicle accident every eight minutes in the United States.
