Multi-Bus Accident Injures Seven on Chicago’s Far South Side

multi-bus accidentAt least seven people have been injured in an early morning multi-bus accident on Chicago’s Far South Side.

Multi-Bus Accident Sends Seven to Hospitals

On December 16, 2019, at approximately 7:10 a.m., a school bus carrying fifteen high school students was traveling in the 11800 block of South Avenue O when it slammed into the rear of a CTA bus. The CTA bus was pushed forward and hit the vehicle directly ahead of it as a result of the crash.

Seven people in total were treated for injuries in the multi-bus accident. Two people on the school bus were transported to Trinity Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized. Additionally, two adults and three children on the CTA bus were taken to area hospitals, where their conditions were also stabilized.

The Challenge of Public Transportation Accidents

Every year, Chicago residents take over 500 million rides on public transportation. Given the sheer number of trips taken, there is a significant risk of injury. Buses can crash, trains can derail, and commuters can slip and fall in stations.

If this happens to you, you may find that obtaining compensation for a public transportation accident can prove challenging. In certain cases, there could be multiple potential causes for an accident. Sometimes another driver may be responsible, not the operator of the bus or train, meaning that that driver is the one that an injured person must pursue for damages.

A personal injury lawyer who has experience with public transportation accidents can promptly initiate a detailed investigation to figure out exactly what happened in a multi-bus accident or another similar event. Only by determining the cause of the accident can a plaintiff identify the at-fault party. Depending upon the nature of the incident, an injured person may be able to pursue a claim against the company operating the vehicle, its manufacturer, the driver of another vehicle, or a combination of these. It is necessary to identify all the negligent parties in a timely manner because plaintiffs who fail to bring their cases forward within the time specified by law may be legally barred from ever receiving fair compensation for their injuries.
