CBC Chicago reports that Robert Gomez, 17, was involved in two accidents on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014. A resident of Beach Park, Illinois, the teenager was fatally injured and killed in the second accident.
Around 10 p.m. Gomez lost control of his vehicle while traveling on Skokie Highway. After he lost control of his car, he struck the median but was largely uninjured. Law enforcement officials do not know why he lost control of his car.
Gomez than stepped out of his car to inspect the damage to his vehicle. While inspecting his car, Gomez was struck by a Suburban SUV traveling north. The SUV was driven by an unnamed 54-year-old resident of Park City, Illinois.
Our deepest condolences to the Gomez family in this tragic accident where the life of a teenager was cut short. There are no words to describe the pain being experienced by the Gomez family.
Police suspect that the chaos that ensued after Gomezs initial accident may have caused multiple accidents on the road.
At this time, no charges have been filed against any of the drivers involved in the accidents. Police found no evidence of any impairment.
