Seven-Vehicle Crash on I-90 Leaves One Dead

One person has been killed and three others have been injured in a seven-vehicle crash on the Kennedy Expressway in Chicago, IL.

Seven-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Traffic

The fatal seven-vehicle crash took place on the evening of October 10, 2021. At approximately 11:17 p.m., officers from the Illinois State Police were called to northbound I-90 near Natoma Avenue on Chicago’s North Side. They were responding to a crash involving multiple vehicles at that location, according to a news release from Trooper Genelle Jones.

Preliminary reports from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Illinois State Police revealed that one person was pronounced dead at the scene of the seven-vehicle crash at 12:05 a.m. The identity of the deceased was not released as of Monday morning. It was also not clear whether the person was a man or woman. Additionally, emergency responders transported three other motorists to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At 11:23 p.m. on the night of the incident, officials closed all outbound lanes of the Kennedy Expressway in Union Ridge in order to conduct an investigation. Police did not release the makes and models of the vehicles involved or immediately provide information about the cause of the seven-vehicle crash.

All lanes of traffic were reopened at 6:39 a.m. No car accident attorneys are known to have filed suit at this time.

Have You Been Hurt in a Crash with Three or More Vehicles?

Crashes that involve three or more vehicles are frequently more challenging when it comes to establishing the party at fault. While the driver responsible for the initial impact is usually considered liable for the entire incident, more than one party may share the blame in some circumstances. The uncertainty involved in these kinds of accidents can pose a serious obstacle when victims try to obtain compensation for their injuries.

Furthermore, the ambiguity involved in these situations will often prompt insurance companies to attempt to minimize their own financial exposure by casting doubt on who was negligent. A plaintiff must construct a strong case built upon a solid factual foundation if he or she wishes to prevail. Such a case may involve collecting as much information as possible from such sources as:

  • Police Reports
  • Traffic Tickets
  • Physical and Photographic Evidence
  • Witness Statements

Gathering and deploying these materials effectively against those who are at fault can be difficult. For this reason, if you have been hurt in a complex collision like the seven-vehicle crash on I-90, consider doing what thousands of other injured victims have done over the years and reach out to the dedicated car accident attorneys at GWC Injury Lawyers LLC.
