RAUL V. RODRIGUEZ is an associate attorney at GWC.
A bilingual Spanish speaker with a decade of experience practicing Workers’ Compensation law, Raul has represented injured workers most of his career, securing nearly $10 million in settlements and verdicts for his clients. He has handled claims involving a diverse array of injuries, including rotator cuff and labral tears, herniated discs, bicep tears, fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome, and tears of the ACL, MCL, and meniscus. In addition, he has successfully litigated loss-of-trade cases throughout his career.
Raul understands the difficulties an injury can create for a worker’s home life. Therefore, he takes an aggressive approach to ensure that benefits and medical bills are timely paid. He also fights to maximize the final amount an injured worker will receive at the end of a case.
Raul was first inspired to practice law by the Enron scandal in 2001, which lit a fire inside him to become a lawyer who fought for good. He takes pride in serving clients who have been wronged and helping them assess risk. Raul empathizes with their struggles and works to communicate with them in a way that allows them to understand the legal process.
As the son of Latin American immigrants, Raul has built a special bond with Chicago’s Latino community. He was one of a handful of lawyers chosen by Mexico’s Department of the Exterior to be Consultant Attorney (“Abogado Consultor”) for the Mexican Consulate of Chicago. In this role, Raul helped the Consulate develop labor initiatives in the Chicagoland area and frequently educated Latino workers on their rights under the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act.
In addition to Workers’ Compensation, Raul has practiced corporate transactional law and commercial litigation. As such, he has had an inside look into the way companies operate, which provides him with a strategic advantage when representing injured workers.
Raul has earned many distinctions throughout his career. He was featured in Hispanic Executive Magazine’s “Latinos in the Law” issues in 2012 and 2014. Raul was also selected as one of Super Lawyers Magazine’s “Rising Stars” from 2013 to 2016, placing him among the top 2.5% of all attorneys under 40 years old. He has repeatedly been included in Leading Lawyers Magazine’s list of “Emerging Lawyers,” honoring attorneys who have proven themselves professional, ethical, and experienced at an early point in their legal career.
Raul received his Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Florida and his Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law. He is a Board Member of Distinctively College Bound, NFP, a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides scholarships to fund afterschool activities for underprivileged children.
Raul lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter. They enjoy traveling, running, college football, and World Cup soccer. In his spare time, Raul writes for a college football blog and runs a podcast for a fifty-person college football league.
