Chicago Bus Crash Kills One in Plaza

The accident occurred on Tuesday, June 3 at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Lake Street. Footage from the accident reveals that that the bus was turning off Lake Street when it collided with four cars before coming to rest inside of a pedestrian plaza.

ABC’s WLS Chicago station reported that the individual, who has not been identified, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital from the injuries sustained in the accident.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office reported that at least six others were treated at area hospitals, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Lurie Children’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital.

One infant was injured in the bus collision and was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where the infant was reported to be in good condition. Officials report that the six adults were in serious condition.

While drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash, authorities did ticket the bus driver for violating traffic laws and they issued the driver tickets for running a red light and for failing to exercise due care.
