Gift of Life 5K

medalOn Sunday Jan. 18, 2015, GWC partner Michael Goldberg participated in the 5th annual “Gift of Life” Bone Marrow foundation 5K race where he took 2nd place for his age group. The attorneys at GWC are committed to community service and proud of Michael Goldberg’s achievement and involvement in a such an important cause.

Jay Feinberg was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1991. Doctors informed Feinberg that he would need a bone marrow transplant. Out of his personal experience, Feinberg established the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation. The organization seeks to increase the number of individuals around the world who register to donate bone marrow.

The registry is essential in matching ill patients with a genetically matching bone marrow donor. Feinberg was lucky. He found his bone marrow exact match during a bone marrow drive. Fortunately, the last donor tested was the perfect donor and he received a successful transplant shortly thereafter.

Feinberg and his organization have helped more than 230,000 bone marrow donors register and more than 2,500 patients have been able to successfully find their bone marrow matches and get successful transplants.
