GWC Injury Lawyers has been retained by the family of an 11-year-old boy who was injured on a roller coaster at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL.
Permanent Scarring After Unexpected Stop
July 25, 2023 should have been a happy day for this active-duty military family, who were visiting Great America prior to a four-year deployment in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the day took a turn for the worse when the Goliath, a wooden roller coaster famed for its 180-foot drop, came to an unexpected stop while the boy and his mother were seated at its apex. They were stuck on the ride for at least five minutes while maintenance was called. Just as unexpectedly, the ride resumed without warning, causing the boy to jerk forward and strike his head and face against the metal bar across his waist.
The parents rushed their son to an area hospital, where he required seven stitches to close a 1.5-inch laceration on his forehead. Permanent scarring is expected – and the family wants answers.
“Six Flags told our clients that this roller coaster was ‘operating normally,’ but what happened to their son should never be considered normal,” said GWC attorney Kate Kirwan Searls, who is representing the family in this matter. “Families expect these rides to be safe. They certainly don’t expect their young children to suffer disfiguring injuries when they have carefully followed all of the park’s instructions.”
