July 25, 2023 should have been a happy day for this active-duty military family, who were visiting Great America prior to a four-year deployment in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the day took a turn for the worse when the Goliath, a wooden roller coaster famed for its 180-foot drop, came to an unexpected stop while the boy and his mother were seated at its apex. They were stuck on the ride for at least five minutes while maintenance was called. Just as unexpectedly, the ride resumed without warning, causing the boy to jerk forward and strike his head and face against the metal bar across his waist.
The parents rushed their son to an area hospital, where he required seven stitches to close a 1.5-inch laceration on his forehead. Permanent scarring is expected – and the family wants answers.
