A collision with an SUV left a pedestrian killed in Chicago’s South Side Kenwood neighborhood.
The incident occurred on July 8, 2017, at approximately 5:14 p.m. The pedestrian killed, Xiang He, 76, of Humboldt Park, was walking at or near the crosswalk in the 1400 block of East 47th Street when an SUV struck her. Ms. He was then taken to Stroger Hospital. She was pronounced dead at 7:03 p.m. An autopsy two days later determined that Ms. He died of “multiple injuries.” Her death was ruled an accident.
Chicago Police issued the driver of the SUV, an unidentified male, a citation for his failure to take due care to avoid striking a pedestrian in the roadway.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a pedestrian is injured in a motor vehicle collision every eight minutes in the United States. Even at low speeds, the impact of thousands of pounds of metal can cause catastrophic injuries.
