On April 13, 2017, discount retailing giant Target recalled Hatch & Grow Easter Eggs, Easter Grow Toys, and Hatch Your Own Dino Toys because they presented an ingestion hazard to young children.
Some 560,000 units of the water-absorbing toys have been recalled. Target stated that, if the toys are ingested, they can expand inside the body and cause intestinal blockages that could result in discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and even death. Surgery would be required to remove an ingested toy, and the company warns that it may not show up on an x-ray. No incidents have been reported thus far.
The Hatch & Grow Easter Eggs contain white bunnies, brown bunnies, and butterflies, the Easter Grow Toys include yellow chicks, brown bunnies, and white bunnies, and the Hatch Your Own Dino Eggs contain one of eleven dinosaurs.
Consumers are urged to immediately take the toys away from children and return them to any Target store for a full refund. They may also call Target at (800) 440-0680 for more information.
PRODUCT LIABILITY
We are surrounded by “products” every day. These products may be groceries, like food and beverages. They may be prescription drugs or vitamin supplements. The products could be household items, such as light bulbs and smoke alarms. They may be toys for our children, or items for personal use, such as E-Cigarettes and smartphones. Even our automobiles are products, as well as their component parts, such as airbags, brakes, tires, and steering columns. We take these products for granted. Many of them are practically invisible to us. But when these products injure us, we become all too aware of their existence.
When this happens, what do you do? Where do you turn for help?
At times like these, you need a dedicated product liability attorney to fight for you, to hold these companies responsible to the full extent of the law.
