Two Killed in Head-On Collision in Riley Township

Head-On CollisionOn the morning of May 24, 2017, two men were killed in a head-on collision in unincorporated Riley Township in the northwest suburbs, authorities say.

At approximately 5:28 a.m., a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta was heading northbound on U.S. Route 20, north of Harmony Road. The driver then apparently lost control of the sedan and veered into the southbound lanes, colliding with a 2013 Ford F-550 Super Duty pickup truck and forcing both vehicles off the road.

Though the airbags deployed and all parties involved were wearing seatbelts, the unidentified driver of the Volkswagen, a 31-year-old Elgin man, was killed, along with his 35-year-old male passenger, also from Elgin. Neither the driver nor the passenger in the Ford was injured.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the collision.
