A building has collapsed on Chicago’s West Side after a nearby explosion, with fire officials requesting assistance to search for those who may still be trapped inside.
Collapse Follows Explosion
The West Side building collapse took place at West Washington Boulevard and North Central Avenue shortly after 9:00 a.m. on September 20, 2022. Officials from the Chicago Fire Department tweeted that injuries had been confirmed and that five ambulances had been requested to the scene.
Fire officials also tweeted that they were “requesting manpower for searches in structure.”
The Chicago West Side building collapse occurred immediately after an explosion at North Central Avenue and West End Avenue. The adjacent building was still being evacuated as of 9:50 a.m., with emergency personnel transporting “a number” of evacuees to area hospitals for medical treatment.
Additional information about the collapse or the neighboring explosion was not immediately available from the Chicago Fire Department.
