Dolan have successfully secured a $1,300,000 settlement on behalf of their retired 63-year-old client who was injured in a semi-truck collision in Jo Daviess County. This result is particularly notable as it represents the third-largest reported settlement in Jo Daviess County history, the largest for a side-swipe collision, and it equates to ten times the client’s medical expenses.
Semi-Truck Collision on U.S. Route 20
The incident took place on February 17, 2020, on U.S. Route 20 in East Galena Township, Illinois. GWC’s client was driving eastbound when a semi-truck operated by an employee of Baja Trucking, L.C., attempted to pass another vehicle by crossing a double yellow line into oncoming traffic. The truck driver then attempted to return to the eastbound lane but lost sight of GWC’s client’s vehicle, sideswiping the left driver’s side.
Semi-Truck Collision Results in Shoulder Injuries and Medical Treatment
Following the collision, GWC’s client sought medical treatment for injuries sustained to his left shoulder, including inflammation, impingement, and neuropathy of the left brachial plexus. The defense sought to minimize the seriousness of the incident and the resulting injuries, arguing that the Plaintiff had regained full function of his arm and hand.

The settlement was funded by Baja Trucking’s insurance carriers, Great West Casualty Company, and Crum & Forster, which together provided the full amount.
