Police: Chicago Apartment Fire Linked To Arson

Chicago Police suspect that a South Shore fire that injured six people was intentionally set. Authorities recently arrested a 27-year-old woman who they say started a fire that injured a child and five adults on Wednesday.

Police say that the woman lit her 24-year-old ex-boyfriends couch on fire Wednesday evening. The Chicago Tribune reports that the blaze erupted at a 50-unit apartment building at the corner of 71st Street and Jeffery Boulevard.

Cook County Assistant States Attorney Amanda Pillsbury told reporters that the fire was the result of an argument between the woman and her ex-boyfriend which turned violent. The man left the woman in his apartment after she bit him and thats when she reportedly lit it on fire.

CBS Chicago reports that six people suffered injuries in the blaze but it is unclear how many people had burn injuries and how many suffered from smoke inhalation.

The Chicago Tribune reports that up to a dozen people were injured in the fire but that the six additional victims had minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
