Rear-End Collision in Hickory Hills Truck Accident
The Hickory Hills truck accident occurred before 7:00 a.m. on March 2, 2021. At that time, two semi-trailers were traveling northbound on the Tri-State Tollway near Roberts Road, south of the 83rd Street Toll Plaza. One of the semi-trailers then rear-ended the semi-trailer traveling directly in front of it.
According to the Illinois State Police, one person in one of the semi-trailers was killed in the Hickory Hills truck accident. The circumstances surrounding the incident and further information on the person who died were not immediately available.
Truck Accident Claims Present Unique Challenges
Truck accidents can be so much more devastating than other types of traffic crashes because of the sheer size of the trucks themselves. Semi-trailers can be forty times heavier than the average vehicle on the road. With such larger dimensions, trucks can inflict extreme injuries even at low speeds, including broken bones, lost limbs, brain and spinal damage, paralysis, coma, or even, as in the case of the Hickory Hills truck accident, death. These types of injuries are both physically and economically punishing, with the combination of extensive medical bills and lost income putting families on the brink of financial ruin.
The economic impact of truck crashes is especially unfortunate because truck accident claims present unique challenges. In the majority of cases, large trucks are commercial vehicles transporting goods for business purposes. This can increase the complexity of a claim because of the number of parties that may be involved. In addition to the truck’s driver and his or her employer, there may be another company that has hired the employer to ship its products, along with other companies too. A truck accident victim needs to identify and pursue all of the parties who might be at fault. Failure to do so within the time allotted by law could forever bar a plaintiff from obtaining full and fair compensation for his or her damages.
